Do you have household items you are looking to get rid of? Why not donate to the Shower the Shelter event on May 21 at Walmart and Sander's Markets?b Safe Journey is accepting cleaning items, paper products, toys and games for playrooms. Bernie Fitch was umpiring a Corry softball game last week when the name Barry Bugbee came up. That's senior. Bernie said that he and Barry were roommates at Edinboro University way back in 1961, and he had not seen him since. Bernie is still one of the premier, personable umpires in District 10.
Union City grad and all-state wrestler Marshall VanTassel is headed to the Dominican Republic. He will be doing medical clinics, sports clinics, construction and painting as part of the Meeting God in Missions program.
"This will be my first year and I am really excited to see how God will use this as an opportunity to change my life and others," he said. Corry native Paul Burrows is his grandfather.
Best wishes to Josh Schrecengost on his marriage over the weekend to his college girlfriend Sydney in Buffalo. The former three-way standout (basketball, tennis and soccer) now lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and the Mercyhurst grad is a manager at a large Wegmans store. If you recall, Josh's dad Mike was his coach in soccer and tennis, back when Corry had a tennis program. I believe Al Gernovich coached a couple years.
Kudos to Barb Beebe on her fantastic photo tribute to Marty Brown at Saturday's memorial services.
Happy birthday today to Bob Hunt and Brian Sullivan, Thursday to Jill Lutton and Ken Harned, Friday to Nate "DJ" Fralick, Rick "DH" Huntley, Yvonne Pound, Linda Ross Ongley, Fuzz Upperman and Brad Sargent.
Congrats to Ryann Brundage on graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in communication sciences and disorders, with a minor in rehabilitation and human services. She has made her family and our community proud.
Jean Powles tells me they are doing a Bob Church memorial this Sunday at the VFW from 2-5 p.m.
Those Mother's Day brunches were a big hit as most places ran out of food quickly. That day was also the 29th anniversary for Maggie and Rich Shopene.
