UNION CITY — The former executive director of the Union City Family Support Center will go to jail for stealing $9,251 from the agency, which provides food, clothing and support for needy families, the Erie Times-News reported.

Renee Basile-Bearse, 55, was sentenced Friday by Erie County Judge William Cunningham to serve nine to 23 months in Erie County Prison. Basile-Bearse also was ordered to pay back the stolen money to the support center, serve five years of probation and perform 25 hours of community service.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office charged Basile-Bearse in January 2008 with stealing a total of $41,716 from the support center.
